TED GIBBONS REMEMBERS HIS VACATION
Looking at the Lago web site GOING ON
VACATION, I thought maybe you might be interested in this trip.
These pictures were taken on the return trip to Aruba, via the US in 7/18/1947
aboard the S.S. America. The Kelly's were a prominent family living in
Philadelphia , Pa. Grace Kelly was an 18 year old passenger traveling home with
her family after being in England to see her brother compete in the Diamond
Sculls in 1947, at Henley England. The autographs on the back of the picture of
the ship I got in the lounge, where several of us gathered to listen and dance
to the live music, and I was lucky enough to dance with Grace. Grace went on
to become a movie star and then became the Princess of Monaco. The pictures are
of mom and dad standing at the railing on board ship, the two women in the
chairs facing away from the camera are Grace and her mother, and the girl facing
the camera is Lizanne Kelly, Grace's sister.
Had it not been for Esso Standard Oil sending us 1st class aboard this ship on
our return to trip to Aruba, I would never have had this opportunity.
