Dave Sorensen, son of Paul and Dee Sorensen, lived in
Lago colony from 1957-1963 (aged 2-8), along with two
younger sisters, Andrea and Lisa. Lisa was born at the Lago
hospital. My dad, Paul, was the industrial psychologist for
the refinery. The family subsequently moved to Bronxville,
NY a suburb of NY City, and Dee still lives there. Paul
died in 1998 after a very successful management consulting
career in his own company. Dave is a semi-retired
consultant after 20 years with the major defense contractor,
SAIC. He pursues his lifetime interests as a world
traveler, artist and photographer. He married a Dutch
woman, Carolien, in 1983, while a US Marine Corps helicopter
pilot and intelligence officer. They now live in Yorktown,
Virginia with son, Erik (18), and Britt (13). Andrea
married Mark Sherman and now lives in Boynton Beach,
Florida. Lisa lives near Dee in Tuckahoe, NY. She is a
professional photographer and has recently become engaged.
The Sorensen family frequently visited Aruba in the 60's and
70's. Dave's last visit to Aruba was in 1991, when they
toured the island with Carolien's brother, Colonel Erik-Jan
Blommestijn, then a Dutch Marine officer stationed on
Curacao. Dave also visited Curacao in 1998 to see the total
eclipse. He has painted various Aruba/ABC themed paintings
and written an illustrated children's story for his kids
based on the staircase that ran down the cliff by the tennis
courts to Baby Lagoon. They remained friends with some of
the old Seroe Colorado and Aruba contacts, to include Mary
and Louis MacNutt, and Hilde and Peter Verheijdt (currently
in Oosterbeek, NL).
