BERT BAKER'S SCRAPBOOK

These photos were sent in by Bert Baker's son, Bert Baker Jr.  Click on Bert Baker to see a photo of his father when he was young.  The following is a little history of the families involvement with Aruba.

Here are some scanned photos I’m pretty sure my grandmother, Florence Baker, took while in Aruba.  These negatives were in a packet from the Aruba Trading Co., St. Nicolas-Oranjestad, Aruba N.A.

I had an uncle by the name of Howard Edward Baker.  He took a job with Standard Oil Co. in 1934 (possibly accounting field).  He worked for Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey in Aruba from 1934 to 1948.  He had a wife by the name of Emma.

My grandfather, Walter Lewis Baker (Howard's brother) was employed by Lago Oil & Transport Co., Aruba, N.W.I. from March 1946 until February 1961 (position unknown, possibly accounting/managerial.).  His wife was Florence.  My father, Bert Lewis Baker, was originally from Wellsboro, PA, went to Aruba in 1946 and graduated from high school in Aruba in 1952.
My uncle Howard graduated from Wellsboro High School, Wellsboro, PA, in 1918, went to Temple, graduated and worked in Philly for some time until he got a job with Standard Oil in 1934.  After Aruba he and his wife Emma resided in Denville, New Jersey.

THIS IS WHAT BERT JR. KNOWS ABOUT THE PHOTOS

IF ANY ONE CAN SUPPLY INFORMATION ABOUT PERSONS IN THE PHOTOS PLEASE LET ME KNOW. DAN

1)      2 back and 2 front:  This is a mystery woman sitting next to the statue of Mary with inscription on reverse.  I think her name is on the back but is hard to read.

2)       004, 005:  Mystery woman with pet bird.

3)      006, 014, 021-023:  My grandparent’s house in Aruba?  I’m not sure but good chance.

4)      007:  Two young mystery children.  Neighbor kids?

5)      008-010:  Mystery women; I’m curious as to who they are.  Maybe neighbors?  Maybe one is Emma Baker, my Uncle Howard’s wife.

6)      011-012, 018-020:  Woman and child.  Unknown.  They do look like they are happy in Aruba, however.

7)      017:  On the back of this photo was written “Walter leaving.”  My grandfather leaving Aruba possibly.

8)      Men at desk:  Probably the best photo of my grandfather, Walter Baker, at right with unknown gentleman.
