SECOND ANCHOR

RECOVERED OFF EAGLE BEACH

Yesterday afternoon Dick de Bruin, Toine van der Klooster, Gregory Paesch, and Edward Yarzagaray lifted the second anchor from inside the lagoon to the Marina at Varadero.

Torpedo, Captained by Edward Yarzagaray, did the towing.  Edward was also a diver.  Due to the Carnival parade, Mr. Jenny Garcia, the boat lift operator could not be there to lift it out of the water.

This afternoon at around 1:00pm it was lifted out of the water by Jenny Garcia with the boat lift and the boom on Andres Garcia's flat bed truck.  It was immediately taken to the sandblast company owned by Mr. Ven Eman, Andre Loonstra's brother-in-law to be sandblasted and be ready to be placed as a monument in honor of the four Dutch demolition team from Curacao and who lost their lives while trying to disarm the torpedo at Eagle Beach.

They were:  Dirk Adrianus Cornelis de Maagd, Pieter Joose, Leonardus Kooyman, and Johannes Vogelenzang.

Plans are confirmed to install the anchor at the Savaneta Camp and the ceremony will be held on February 18, 2010,

68 years ago that these people lost their lives.

DAN'S NOTE:  THIS MONUMENT IS TO BE LOCATED INSIDE THE SAVANETA MARINE CAMP AND IS IN ADDITION TO THE MONUMENT THAT IS BEING PLANNED WITH THE PROPELLER FROM THE LAKE TANKER ORANJESTAD.
